Monopoly Board Games

Monopoly board games are the most commercially successful board games in the history of the United States. The game was patented by Charles Darrow in 1935. The 1999 Guinness Book of World Records stated that Monopoly had been played by 500 million people. Now there are dozens of different versions of Monopoly available, and it remains a family favorite.

You may recognize Monopoly board games by its mascot, Rich Uncle Pennybags – a.k.a. Mr. Monopoly. He wears a monocle, a suit and a top hat and he can be found on all of the many different versions of Monopoly. Monopoly Jr., World Monopoly, European versions of Monopoly, and Monopoly with Visa debit cards, are only a few of the many different themes.

The newest of the Monopoly board games is called Monopoly Here and Now: The World Edition. It was announced in August of 2008. This edition features top locations from all over the world, which were decided by votes cast over the internet.
